Partly hungover and partly disappointed that Homecoming Weekend is already over, Kelsey Frazier, a 2008 St. Bonaventure graduate, rests her head on the kitchen table of a friend's Allegany apartment.
After spending the annual Homecoming Weekend reliving their college years, visiting St. Bonaventure University alumni awoke Sunday to the depressing realization that another monotonous week of post-college life awaits them Monday.
“I just can’t believe it’s already over,” said Michael Turk, a 2007 graduate. “This weekend was the one thing that kept me going for the past two months and now I have to go back home and wake up tomorrow and work a crappy job for eight hours. Ugh.”
Turk’s sentiments were echoed throughout Allegany apartments and the St. Bonaventure campus, as hungover alumni peeled themselves from couches and air mattresses and attempted to pack their belongings for car or plane rides home.
“I almost just want to reenroll,” said Kelsey Frazier, a despondent 2008 grad, who took a break from packing for a five-hour car ride back to Hoboken, N.J. “This weekend just reminded me how awesome my four years at Bonas were and how much I wish I were still here.”
Frazier said she was not looking forward to returning to her current job as a data entry specialist at a pharmaceutical company.
“You know how people always tell you to stay in school for as long as possible?” she said. “I’m pretty sure they’re right. I was jobless for so long I just had to take whatever was available so I could start paying back student loans.”
Brian Redmond, also a 2008 graduate, said he’d saved money for two months in anticipation of Homecoming Weekend.
“It was so nice to get out of my parents’ house for a weekend,” said Redmond, who stayed with friends in Townhouse 22. “They’ve been driving me insane.”
Turk, whose “crappy” job actually pays quite well, also said he wishes he could come back permanently.
“One of my favorite quotes is ‘If Bonas is a four-year weekend, I never want Monday to come,’” Turk said. “Well, shit, Monday’s tomorrow.”
